Appalling Customer Service & poor organisation The food is pretty good. Unfortunately it doesn’t make up for the frankly abysmal customer service or the sheer lack of organisation. Choices are limited in Arusha and I do believe in second chances but at some point it gets a little bit ridiculous. We passed that point a little while ago. To begin with, there’s always an issue with spice levels. As someone who eats Indian food fairly often, please trust that I’m not unfamiliar with the cuisine. However, their ‘MILD’ feels a bit like someone got confused and poured the food into the cabinet where the chillies are stored. (For anyone else with acid reflux, you might want to sit this one out. Or just order the yoghurt for dinner.) Here’s what pushed me to write this review - the consistently poor service every time I’ve ordered a delivery. Ordering two portions of Zanzibar Mix yet getting them packaged as one giant portion is annoying. But when you specifically asked for it to be packaged as 2 separate portions for separate people - it’s frustrating at best. This has happened TWICE. But here’s the thing - both times my instructions were ignored yet somehow I was charged extra for packaging on both occasions. Moreover, when messaging the restaurant about this - I was told ‘oh but you can just separate it into two portions’. Other mishaps with delivery involve forgetting to deliver the requested portions of bread in a dish categorised by its inclusion of bread. As always, I know it’s easy to forget instructions so I do always specify in writing when I place the order. As of today, where my order was yet again probably more chilling than anything else, all I received was a ‘Sorry Madam’ What a shame that all the potential in the kitchen gets overshadowed by nothing more than a simple inability to follow instructions or to even extend common courtesy after issuing the bill. What a shame.

Excellent Indian vegetarian snacks in Arusha Excellent Indian vegetarian snacks in the heart of Arusha in Tanzania. Good attention to details and quite authentic Indian tastes. The Masala Dosa was quite good and the Idlis were soft. Decent Service

Deliciously Spiced We enjoyed wonderful South Indian food at this hard to find diner. The starters were tangy, zingy and crunchy, the mains warm and satisfying. Service is good. Why not move to bigger premises? The food deserves a higher profile in the town.

Taste of home We walked through the Central Market and stumbled upon 5Chutneys. It was on the radar, but we would have missed it. Thrilled to see there was a clientele of Indian locals. We had 4 different dishes and my wife and daughter who had lived in India were thrilled. Masala Dosa and Mysore Dosa were delicious.

Nutritious, tasty, fresh food made with love We were a large group and ordered several meals from this place before heading off for the safari. We loved each meal. Each item was prepared with so much care. We just loved it. Our favourites were samosas, grilled sandwich, stuffed parothas. They were packed so carefully, which made it easy for us. Can't thank the owners enough. Highly recommended.

Amazing idlis and masala dosa in Arusha Five Chutneys is located in a busy part of Arusha and reminded us of the small restaurant that occupies an inconspicuous place alongside the main streets of small town India. It is a hidden gem indeed. If you want to savor unpretentious, home made delicacies, this is indeed the place. We were there for lunch while passing through town and were delighted to a treat that included dosa and idls. As a native born South Indian, I commend the owner/chef for her prowess and ability to recreate these foundational south Indian foods in a far away land. The coconut chutney was perfect and so too the steaming idlis and crispy masala dosa. Unfortunately I did not get the name of the owner/chef but she was the most hospitable, kind lady who ensured that our discerning needs were met. Since we visited right around Diwali, she even packed a few sweets to take along with us for the road. These were from her own personal stash....how kind of her! Please drop in when you are in town here and missing Indian vegetarian food. You will be sated. Thanks to the owner/chef for the wonderful lunch.
